Metabolic & Endocrine Research Nurse
Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Metabolic & Endocrine research nurse to work 2 days a week (15 hours) at a leading hospital based in the heart of Surrey. To start immediately. The contract is for 2 years.
Job Overview:
To assist with screening and clinical studies investigating the effect of drug therapy, nutritional interventions and exercise training on metabolism in obesity, prediabetes and diabetes. The clinical studies take place over a full day and involve the intravenous infusion of metabolites such as tagged glucose molecules which can be measured in blood samples. In some studies insulin will be infused. Metabolic studies are also undertaken in cross sectional studies which aim to understand the metabolic abnormalities in obesity, prediabetes and diabetes.
Key Duties/Responsiblities:
To screen volunteers (venepuncture, ECG)
To insert cannulae, set up infusion pumps, take blood samples on the clinical study days
To undertake basic laboratory work ie centrifugation of blood samples, separation of plasma and serum, measurement of blood glucose on a glucose analyser at the bedside (prior experience of this is not necessary)
Key Skills:
Current ICH-GCP
Venepuncture/Cannulation/IV/ECG
Experience in an acute setting
Computer literate
Ability to work flexible hours (no nights)
